How to Become a SABR Referee? Here’s How.

People become referees in the Soccer Association of Boca Raton (SABR) program for a variety of reasons.

Some do it for the money, while others do it for the love of the game – gaining knowledge of the rules if they are a parent or a player, or just to give back to the game. Some referees in the program are also college students looking to earn some money while they attend a local college.

Soccer referees with more experience will typically counsel, nurture, and help guide the younger, inexperienced referees through the games. They can assist with positioning and mechanics. The younger official gains experience and confidence.

Youth referee jobs in SABR are plentiful

SABR, with 2,500 youth and 500 adult players in its in-house recreational programs, is looking to add referees to the SABR assignor’s current pool. The additional referees can become certified for the first time, or others who are certified but not in the current SABR pool.

With SABR being affiliated with Florida State Referees and having its own FSR Certified Assignor for all these players’ games, the games follow the Laws of the Game and USSF Discipline guidelines per its affiliation with FYSA and FASA (with some modifications for Adult League play).

How do you become a referee?

A youth sports referee, age 11-13, can get their start in SABR as a Futures Referee, gaining experience working the lines of U9 and U10 games while an experienced mentor who knows the soccer referee rules and procedures helps. When youth sports referees are 14, they can become a Certified official working both lines as an assistant referee or working the middle.

How much do soccer referees get paid?

SABR Futures Referees make $15 a game. Certified Referees earn $23+ per game – depending on age groups and level of play.

With more than 1,000 games to be officiated in SABR throughout the season, there are plenty of youth soccer referee jobs to go around.

What’s wrong with having fun and earning money too?

Certified referees are essential to the game at every level — and this is a great way to be on the field and earn money while being outdoors and staying active in performing youth sports referee jobs.

Some referees who get their start in SABR have gone on and now referee higher profile games, from state, regional, and national championship contests to working college, semiprofessional, and professional games – both indoor and outdoor games through the US Soccer Federation.

There are also many opportunities to referee in local tournaments, sometimes as many as twice a month, once they are proficient in learning the soccer Laws of the Game.
