Adult Volunteer Compliance Requirements
To ensure the safety and well-being of all players, the Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) requires adult volunteers—including coaches, managers, and administrators—to complete several compliance steps each season. These include a background check, SafeSport training, and CDC’s Heads Up concussion awareness certification.
Volunteers are “Adults” if they are 18 years old or older, including any volunteer that will become 18 during the 12 months of August 1, 2025 – July 31, 2026.
FYSA Risk Management Program
The FYSA Risk Management Program is designed to identify and mitigate risks in our soccer community to help protect youth athletes across the state. All volunteers, coaches, and staff are required to complete annual pre-season background screenings and to follow safety protocols with their players during the season.
Before you begin: As you go through each of these Compliance Requirements, you will be asked for your name and email address. Your name should completely match your government issued ID (such as your Driver’s License) and you must enter the exact same name every time. The same applies to whatever email address you provide.
First complete your background check:
- Log in to your GotSport account.
- Go to the Background Check tab.
- Click ‘Submit New Report’ and enter your legal name and all required information.
- Background checks must be submitted once per season and completed on time.

Then do the Concussion Awareness: CDC “Heads Up”
FYSA follows the CDC’s “Heads Up” initiative to ensure concussion safety and awareness among coaches and staff. All FYSA-affiliated coaches and personnel must complete online concussion training to learn how to recognize, respond to, and manage suspected concussions in youth athletes.
To complete this requirement: Follow the instructions here: Heads Up Concussion Training

Then do the SafeSport Training
The SafeSport Act of 2018, passed by Congress, aims to prevent and report child abuse in youth sports. It expands mandatory reporting requirements and mandates abuse-prevention training for adults involved in youth sports.
FYSA requires all adult members—including coaches, managers, and administrators—to complete SafeSport training, which covers:
- Mandatory reporting
- Sexual misconduct awareness
- Emotional and physical misconduct
To complete your training:
- Access SafeSport via your GotSport account.
- Training must be completed before participation in any FYSA-sanctioned activity.
- Completion dates will be automatically recorded in your GotSport profile.
