How Do I Become a Soccer Coach with SABR?
If you’ve ever wondered how to become a soccer coach, the answer might be simpler than you think. At SABR, we welcome volunteers of all experience levels to help lead youth soccer teams in a positive, supportive environment. Whether you’re stepping in as a first-time coach or returning to the field after years away, you will be guided every step of the way!
You can sign up as a volunteer coach when registering your child or through our Volunteer Registration page. From there, you will have access to preseason coaching clinics, practice plans, youth safety training, coaching courses, and resources that walk you through how to coach youth soccer and play soccer effectively.
Meet the Coach Who’s Here to Help You Succeed
One of the things that makes SABR unique is our focus on supporting recreational coaches. Unlike most programs that reserve their top staff for competitive teams, SABR has a full-time Director of Coaching and Player Development dedicated to our recreational coaches. Carrie Barker, who holds a USSF National A License and multiple coaching education credentials, works directly with our volunteer coaches. Carrie brings over 25 years of experience at the collegiate, Olympic Development, and national levels. She is a former NCAA Division I coach with nine tournament appearances, and she has trained hundreds of coaches through the USSF Grassroots Instructor program!
Under her leadership, SABR volunteer coaches are supported with hands-on guidance throughout the season. From small-sided training sessions to player development tips, every coach is set up for success. Carrie also manages the SABR After School training program and works closely with both youth and adult soccer. Her focus on learning and development means that even new coaches will quickly gain the confidence to step into their role and even become sports mentors.
You do not need a coaching license or prior experience to coach with SABR. What you need is a willingness to mentor athletes, learn, and help young soccer players grow in confidence. Every coach is encouraged to become an effective communicator, modeling leadership and support both on and off the field. With both flexible and selective practice nights and a strong learning center, coaching becomes something that fits into your life.
Coaching with SABR is more than just running drill! It is about building lifelong relationships, supporting youth soccer, and becoming a sports mentor who makes a lasting impact on every soccer player you work with. If you have been thinking about how to get more involved in your community, this is a great place to start.
The Benefits of Coaching with SABR
Volunteering with SABR is good for both your mental and physical health, and not just for the kids! For many parents and community members, coaching becomes one of the most fulfilling ways to stay connected, with their kids, their neighbors, and playing soccer in general. It is a chance to be a youth mentor and make a meaningful impact that goes far beyond the soccer field for both the player and coach!
When you coach, you become part of a team too. You get to watch players develop confidence and self-esteem, learn new skills, and experience success through effort. The benefits of mentoring youth in sports are clear: you help build character, create a safe and fun environment, and guide kids through some of their most important learning and development years.
For many, coaching also strengthens the bond with their own children. Sharing the experience of practices, game days, and team moments creates memories that stick. It becomes a way to support your child while also being a part of something larger, a community of over 2000 families working together to grow the beautiful game.
The Soccer Association of Boca Raton offers a strong support system to help you grow as a coach and as a leader. From coaching education resources to one-on-one support from Carrie Barker, every volunteer coach gets the tools to succeed. Whether you are managing training sessions or learning how to become a more effective communicator, you will be building real coaching skills while mentoring athletes along the way.
If you’ve been thinking about coaching, mentoring, or finding a way to support youth soccer in Boca Raton, now is the time to take that step. SABR makes it easy to get involved, with hands-on training, a supportive team, and a positive environment for both new and experienced volunteers.
