SABR embraces the US Youth Soccer Small-Sided Games philosophy for player development in our Youth Recreation and Team Boca programs. This approach applies child development concepts to soccer, teaching age-appropriate skills that align with children’s cognitive, physical, and social stages.
Coaching Education: Coaches and trainers in our Recreation Under-5 to Under-12 Divisions undergo training clinics led by U.S. Soccer Federation Instructors, including classroom sessions and on-field demonstrations. Our Team Boca coaches hold US Soccer coaching licenses.
Staffing: We employ experienced youth trainers from local colleges and high schools for Under-5 and Under-6 divisions, transitioning parent volunteers into coaching roles as children progress.
Game Structure: For Under-5 to Under-8, rosters are randomly created, players rotate positions, and there are no goalkeepers or score keeping. All participants receive a trophy at the end of the season.
Structured Play: Under-9 – U-19 teams are balanced based on skill evaluations. FIFA-certified referees manage games, standings are kept, and trophies are awarded to conference champions.
Post-Season Tournament: All Under-9 and older teams Recreation teams compete in the Tom Cherubin Cup Tournament, with regular season standings used only for tournament seeding of all teams in the division..
Parent Resources: we believe parents and guardians play a role in youth development that is just as important as coaches and players themselves. When adults are informed, aligned, and supportive, children benefit — both on and off the field.
That’s why SABR provides its member families free access to the Soccer Parent Resource Center, an education platform created specifically to support parents navigating the youth soccer experience.
