You can start the online coursework as early as July, and it’s recommended to complete it before the SABR season begins in November. Upon completion, you’ll be certified as a “Grassroots” level referee.
The coursework is hosted on Florida Soccer Referees (www.flsoccerrefs.org), with links to the USSF Learning Center for both certification and recertification. Both sites include FAQ sections to answer most questions.
The course starts with a “Safe Soccer” module and background check (if 18+), followed by modules on the Laws of the Game, including a final exam (which can be retaken if failed). You may find a copy of the Laws of the Game useful, and abridged versions are available at https://soccerblade.com/rules-of-soccer/.
For decisions on fouls and cards, refer to the FIFA Considerations of the Laws of the Game, available at https://floridasoccerreferees.app.box.com/.
